Parts With Appeal

With a nod to both the scale and the bold iconography used by James Rosenquist, Coop appropriates the very pop-culture imagery that he has created (women, devils, cars, etc.) by dissecting, fragmenting and examining their parts. By reassembling these crucial elements, and therefore re-contextualizing, he has transformed them into a new whole. As these images have been reconfigured, Coop found it necessary to produce them in something not recently associated with his work; the classic medium of painting. Using acrylics, these works contain a deep texture that details the creative hand when viewing them closely. But as the viewer steps back and experiences the large work as a constructed whole, the acrylic lines display a cohesive sensibility.
